At Ferry, you can steal a kiss or two from your sweetheart. They have a lovely terrace, an urban interior, good food – try the burgers! – and good beats. Ferry is a good place to start if you’ve recently come out. Straight friends are welcome too. It’s my home port.

Dancing – the music is too loud to chat, I do at café Strano, where a young hip crowd dances to Lady Gaga, Madonna, Britney and gay classics. If I want to let my hair down, Keerweer is the place to be with a lot of Dutch music by Willeke Alberti and the Toppers. Bar de Regenboog (Van Oldenbarneveltstraat 148A) and Bar Loge 90 have the same vibe or drag café Bonaparte.
