I live on the Willemskade in the Scheepvaartkwartier. There you will find the Brandgrens, a visible border of the fire that started when the city centre was bombed in 1940. On one side of the dividing line, you will find historic Rotterdam with stately old buildings that housed banks or notary offices. On the other side, a new city after reconstruction surrounded by well-maintained greenery. You pass the Veerhaven where old boats are moored or discover bars that are inspired by shipping with a typical Rotterdam no-nonsense atmosphere, such as the Captain's Cabin.
