AT LOCAL LORENZO'S MULTI-CULTURAL HOTSPOTS, LIFE IN KATENDRECHT IS THE BIGGEST ATTRACTION
Lornzo Elstak (33), Social & Creative Entrepreneur, initiator of Stichting IK BEN WIJ, Stichting Platform Katendrecht and owner of dance entertainment company Pure-Amusement.
Born and raised: In Katendrecht, which makes him a real ‘Kapenees’.
Why: You come to Katendrecht for the people; super straightforward, typically Rotterdam and totally Kapenees… It’s the people that make the city, right!
Motto: I always say… ‘celebrate the differences, make the most of the similarities.’
Question 1 of 5
Why should I cycle all the way to Katendrecht?
You have to come to Katendrecht for the route alone, via the Maastunnel or via – my favourite option – the Erasmus Bridge. Either way, you defy the Maas River, which is an eye-catcher in itself. When you enter Katendrecht, you are welcomed by the industrial vibes of attention-grabbers with a historical story, such as the old freight train track, the Fenix and the Codrico building, where grain used to be stored. What you find next makes the journey more than worthwhile; quite unexpectedly, the beautiful ss Rotterdam is moored here. Enjoy lunch, a drink and a paddle in the pool on the deck. Cool manager too!
