The authentic Katendrecht can be found in the Tolhuisstraat and Rechthuislaan, where you will find few restaurants, but will stumble over social rental housing. People who originally come from de Kaap (Katendrecht’s nickname) live here and are very committed to the neighbourhood. Ask them what it’s like to live here, and you are guaranteed a good story about the contrast between then and now… It’s not all positive, but it gives you a broader view of the neighbourhood. A little further on are the skate park, surrounded by lots of greenery, and a small beach, both meeting places for the true Kapenees. The Waterbus stops here too. Useful and fun.
